Position Title: Survey Crew Chief
Reports To: Project Manager
FLSA Status: Full-time, Non-exempt
Department: Surveying
Location: Loveland or Golden, CO
Overview of the Role:
As a Survey Crew Chief, you will lead a dedicated team in the field, responsible for collecting and recording critical survey data. You will ensure the safety of your team while utilizing various instruments and measuring devices to complete diverse survey assignments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and manage the field production of topographic and boundary surveys, along with other survey-related tasks.
- Operate and maintain GPS and conventional surveying instruments.
- Document and organize field notes effectively.
- Interpret construction plans to ensure accurate surveying areas.
- Execute field staking and general surveying on projects.
- Collaborate directly with clients and project stakeholders as directed.
- Safely operate company vehicles for team transportation.
Field Duties Include:
You will need the ability and knowledge to perform various survey tasks accurately and efficiently, including:
- Well Connect Pipeline Surveys
- Well Head Staking
- Pipeline Route Staking and As-built Surveys
- Construction Staking
- Topographical Surveys
- Boundary Surveys
- ALTA Surveys
You should be proficient in operating Trimble GPS and Robotic Total Station, including Trimble Field Software, as well as Auto and Digital Level equipment. A solid understanding of engineering plans is essential, as is the ability to perform field calculations to determine horizontal and vertical locations for data points.
Team Coordination:
- Supervise and direct the work of surveying team members.
- Evaluate project effort levels, assess field practice efficiencies, and develop tools for improved workflow.
- Maintain survey equipment, vehicles, batteries, and consumables inventory both in storage and in vehicles.
Salary Range: $27.00 – $33.00 per hour
Qualifications:
- Comprehensive knowledge of general surveying practices related to public works, regional water pipeline systems, and land development projects.
- Highly motivated with strong communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead, manage, train, and mentor team members.
- Initiative, responsibility, and adaptability are crucial.
- Strong mathematical and organizational skills.
Education and Training:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- A 2-year technical degree in an accredited engineering or surveying program is preferred.
Environmental Factors:
Fieldwork is performed outdoors for sustained periods and may involve exposure to hot, cold, or inclement weather.
Physical Demands:
The physical and mental requirements for this position include:
- Regular walking, standing, or sitting; effective communication skills, both in-person and by phone; and the ability to handle standard office and field equipment.
- In-office duties may involve sitting at a desk and occasionally lifting objects weighing up to 30 lbs.
- Fieldwork may require walking, standing, and lifting objects weighing up to 50 lbs, and navigating steep terrain.
