2021 is a year of growth! Baseline has added several new team members, across all divisions. From project managers, to construction inspectors, and everything else in between. Each of these individuals have already made an impact on the company and have helped lead us to various milestones of success.

As a small-sized firm, Baseline has always valued and embraced getting to know each employee on a deeper level; we cherish our team members and they are a top priority. We are proud of these new employee’s accomplishments and are excited to see future achievements. Continue reading to learn more about some of our hires this year:

Duncan Hotchkiss, LSIT – Oversees all types of surveys, including as-builts, boundary, and topographic surveys; he works within Baseline’s surveying division as a survey chief and project manager in Loveland. He’s familiar with Trimble R6 and R10s, Trimble S6 total stations, leveling equipment, and a DJI Phantom drone and is a licensed FAA commercial drone pilot. Some notable projects include multiple gas pipelines as-builts from Los Angeles to the Mojave Desert. On a dam survey, in the middle of the Sierra Nevada, he topo-ed the dam, the outflow structure, and canyon below the outflow. Outside of work, he enjoys off-roading in his Bronco, hunting, fishing, camping, or working on home improvement projects.

Matt Jones PE, CFM – Is a certified floodplain manager with a passion for stream restoration. He is our water resources engineer at Baseline in Golden. In addition to natural stream design, Matt has extensive roadway drainage design, detention/water quality pond design, hydraulic and hydrologic modeling/analysis, and permit experience. Matt came into the last years of the procurement phase of the Central 70 project as the lead drainage engineer. In this role, he updated the drainage and water quality reports with full appendices; he performed water quality capture volume calculations and pond sizing, with grading. In Matt’s free time, he enjoys hiking, cooking, wood working, and dancing.

Jason Hawley – Has over 20 years of experience in surveying and is a survey chief and project manager on our survey team in Golden. He manages field assignments, ALTA surveys, control surveys, design surveys, all aspects of construction staking- buildings, bridges, railway, roads, infrastructure. He is organized, accurate, and efficient. Troubleshooting and problem-solving are two of his strengths in the field. Beyond Baseline, Jason enjoys boating, cruising, motorcycling, kickboxing, and tackling home improvement projects.

Mike Beurskens, PE – Works on the engineering team as a project manager. He has been a resident of Steamboat Springs since 1994, and is a former engineer for the City of Steamboat Springs. Mike continues to work in Steamboat Springs at Baseline. He’s a seasoned engineer with over 30 years of experience for diverse projects, including CDOT projects. In his free time, he enjoys mentoring math students, reading, skiing, biking, hiking, and hanging out with his wife and his two Cocker Spaniels named Cinnamon and Biscuit.

In the end, each of these people have been influential to our company, even upon beginning their new role. Duncan and Jason, both members of our survey team, were instrumental in winning an on-call contract from Colorado State University recently. In addition, Matt has already completed two floodplain proposals, positioning our firm for future success. Thirdly, Mike has assisted in submitting a grant fund request for a key project. These are just a few of their accomplishments over their short time with us so far.
