Position Title: Associate Planner
Reports To: Planning Director
FLSA Status: Full-Time, Non-exempt

General Summary: Baseline’s mission is to serve our clients as trusted advisors, delivering integrated land development solutions. Planning Technicians and Associate Planners collaborate with our multi-disciplinary team to complete planning, entitlement, permitting, and engineering for development clients and perform development review and other planning work for municipal clients.

Essential Functions and Experience with:

  • Participate in preparing a full range of development applications for pre-application, rezoning, PUDs, subdivisions, site plans, special use permits, etc.
  • Perform development application review work for municipalities
  • Prepare and make presentations for public meetings and hearings
  • Research and analyze state and local land use regulations
  • Provides technical assistance and information to clients and team members
  • Prepares narrative staff reports and recommendations
  • Prepares maps, charts, tables related to zoning and land use issues
  • Data manipulation and calculations
  • Memos, letters, reports, and preparation of plans, graphics, and regulations

Other Functions:

  • Performs routine office tasks including data entry, file management, copying and answering the telephone
  • Prepares and posts public notices
  • Attends public meetings, assisting other planning staff as needed
  • May assist with land surveying and field observation as needed

 

Job Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills
  • Uses critical thinking to effectively solve problems
  • Displays self-motivation and self-discipline
  • Demonstrates understanding of community planning principles and practices, land use codes and plans
  • Ability to review plans and apply codes and regulations to determine compliance
  • Use critical thinking to solve problems and gather relevant information to solve vaguely defined practical problems
  • Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment, as needed
  • Must be proficient in Outlook and Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency in GIS applications strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and SketchUp preferred
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) preferred

 

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban/community planning, landscape architecture, environmental design, or closely related field is preferred.  Unrelated degrees will be considered if combined with at least four years of directly applicable experience.
  • Planning Technician: One to two years of experience in a municipal planning or community development department, or equivalent private-sector position, is required
  • Associate Planner: Two to five years of experience in a municipal planning or community development department, or equivalent private-sector position, is required

 

Salary Hiring Range:

  • Associate Planner: $60,000 – $75,000
